October is Black History Month. We believe it is important to celebrate Black History all year round, but also to mark it in October, too. On Saturday the 5th October, at Southwark Cathedral, 10.30am–1.30pm there is a ‘Black History Month Thanksgiving Eucharist’, followed by a panel discussion featuring Archbishop Justin Welby and special guests. Join us for a day of fellowship, learning and celebration, exploring this year’s theme ‘Music at the heart of change’.
To help manage capacity at the Cathedral, we ask that you kindly register to attend this event.
In the parish we will mark Black History Month by singing some ‘Gospel’ songs & Spirituals, and other music from Black song writers, in some of our services. We are always open to learning new songs, too, so if there is a song, or hymn, that helps you worship God, let us know!
At Hope Café the ‘Big Jerk’ Black History Month Special will be returning on Thursday lunchtimes during October, 11am-2pm at St Paul’s.
On 6th October, at 10.30am, Archdeacon Jonathan will be joining us for a joint service at St Paul’s to mark the completion of the Organ Restoration and to rededicate it and bless it. After the service there will be a bring-and-share lunch in the hall and grounds. Everyone welcome!
We will be having a joint choir from both churches that Sunday so, if you wish to sing in it, please do join us for the choir rehearsals on the 3rd October, 6.30pm-8pm and on the 6thOctober, 10am-11am, both at St Paul’s.
